A variety of electrical and electronic equipment are in use in modern operation theatres for monitoring anesthesia & surgical procedures. The success of the procedures and safety of patients depend largely on the reliability, smooth and trouble free performance of these equipment and skilled anaesthetists. There is an increasing need for qualified and trained hands in the field. This course is aimed at satisfying this need of the state.
Since 2004, Al Shifa College of Paramedical Science is conducting DOTAT course and our course is approved by the Government of Kerala, Paramedical Council and affiliated to the Directorate of Medical Education.
Operating theatre technicians (OTTs) are an integral part of the operation unit team functioning with surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre nurses to help make certain every operation is as safe and successful as possible. The successful outcome of surgical process relies not only on the expertise of attending doctors and nurses, but also on technical capacity, level-headedness and alertness of OTT.
In addition to core clinical skills and a sound knowledge of specialist equipment and drugs provides the students with the ability to reassure and support patients emotionally through the stressful experience of surgery.
The candidate should have passed higher secondary examination 10+2 of Govt. of Kerala or equivalent recognized by DME, Govt. of Kerala. A minimum of 45 % marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The latest rise in the number of multispecialty hospitals has put forward an enormous demand for OT technicians. With practice and proficiency, OTT can earn very rewarding and competitive remuneration. One can rise up the ladder and work specifically in Cardiac, Fertility, Cancer, Orthopaedics and other Surgical OT’s. All things considered, the gratification derived from the job is very therapeutic and inspiring.
