Since, 2009 Al Shifa College of Paramedical Science has been conducting Bachelor of Science course in Medical Laboratory Technology along with other courses approved by Government of Kerala, Kerala Paramedical Council and affiliated to KUHS (Kerala University of Health Sciences).

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology is an undergraduate programme in the field of Paramedical Sciences. Medical Laboratory Professional is a highly skilled scientist who discovers the presence/absence of diseases and the cause of overlying infection and provides data that helps the physician to diagnose and determine the best treatment for the patient. BSc MLT course will cover a syllabus described by Health University of Kerala including health care science. The programme covers practical experiments along with theory classes. The student with a degree in MLT has greater opportunities ahead and they are assured with attractive remunerations packages in the healthcare sector and other sectors. They can also go for their higher studies including Masters in MLT etc.

Each candidate shall undergo the practical training in an approved hospital / National Research Laboratory for two periods of not less than 300 hours to be covered in not less than 2 months duration during the course period every year.

Eligibility

As per the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) Govt. of Kerala norms, Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or examinations recognized equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English put together, are eligible.

What to do after B.Sc. MLT

After completing the educational program, the seeker can go in for Post Graduation or opt for a job in India/abroad in the related field. The best options are M.Sc MLT (Microbiology, Pathology, and Biochemistry), M.Sc Medical Microbiology, M.Sc Medical Biochemistry, M.Sc Virology & M.Sc Clinical Embryology. Once, the candidate completed their Post Graduation, students can work in health care centers, reference laboratories, Research Institutes, Food & Drug administration, Vaccine preparation centre (Animal Handling), Transfusion Medicine and Machine Manufacturing Companies and will be eligible to receive a license to open a clinical laboratory with the council registration.
